LETTING GO – AN AUTUMN SEASONAL YOGA WORKSHOP

Through our technological advances we have created a world where, particularly in developed countries, we live busier and busier lives as the daylight hours and communication barriers no longer restrict us.  Despite this, we have begun to feel completely disconnected from ourselves and the world around us. As a result the stress hormones within our bodies remain elevated and our physical and mental health begins to suffer in ways that they never did 100 years ago.

Join Sharon for an immersion into Seasonal Yoga and learn how our daily habits, priorities, dietary intake and behaviours can be altered during the Season of Autumn so that we may become more attuned to the natural world around us. Practice the ancient practices of Hatha yoga, Tai Chi & Qigong to align your energy with that of Autumn.

During the workshop you will discover, in an experiential way, how changing the focus of your meditation, pranayama and asana practice each season can bring about a greater sense of balance and harmony for the whole being.

This workshop will focus on working with the energy channels (meridians) of the Lungs and the Large Intestines, our organs of elimination. Take this opportunity to work with the energy of the metal element this season, consolidating and gathering energy inwards. As the leaves fall more readily from the trees in nature we too must focus on letting go of that which no longer serves us. In doing this we allow the mind and body the time to reflect, cleanse and repair during this more Yin time of year.

The workshop will close with a seasonally inspired Yoga Nidra to leave you feeling relaxed and grounded. With Seasonal treats and factsheets to take home, you will have the tools to begin living more seasonally from the moment you leave the session.

The workshop is suitable for all abilities and open to those from age 12 years upwards. Please note that any persons under 16 years of age should be accompanied by a paying adult.

This event is perfect for those who spend lots of time driving or sitting at a desk, along with those who have an active lifestyle. Runners, cyclists, gym goers, hikers, rock climbers, we all need to look after our hips! When our hips are too tight it limits our range of movement and increases the load on our lower backs, often resulting in injuries. Equally when our hips are too flexible, injuries are caused from instability.

Together we will explore how we can release the physical tension around the hips to increase movement, create stability as needed, reduce lower back pain and prevent injury. We will explore how these postures can help us to release blocked energy and emotions and cause an energetic shift that can help us tune into our own creativity and self-expression.

Don’t underestimate the power of your breath when you learn how to switch your breathing from shallow to deep diaphragmatic breathing, it has immense benefits for body and mind. This workshop is aimed at complete beginners but also it is perfect for teachers wanting to deepen their knowledge. Pranayama reduces anxiety, depression insomnia, production of stress hormones and increases a sense of peacefulness towards yourself and others.

This workshop will give you all the tools you need to begin everyday with some simply breathwork, progressing onto simple Pranayama.

The practice of Pranayama; the ability to prolong and control the physical act of breathing, it is deeply therapeutic, and can be considered a tool to help you bring about physical health, increased awareness, calmness and clarity over one’s mind. It is the 4th limb of Patanjali’s Ashtanga Yoga and therefore stands at the very heart of Yoga, and yet it is little understood and rarely taught in any depth in regular weekly classes. Asana alone is rarely enough to achieve the state of “Yoga”.

Those who joined in August will get an opportunity to deepen & further their practice. It offers 10 CPD hours, (eventually building up to 30 CPD). Cultivating enough understanding to eventually pass on into a class situation.

The practice of asana, pranayama and meditation should be integrated , they should inform and complement one another.

Yin is calm and peaceful. Yang is active and dynamic.  Of course we need both but our swift-paced world tends to find life a little too heavy in yang!  So here we bring balance and practice the transition back to peace.

Yin Yoga targets the fascia (connective body tissue), opening up tight, dense areas that can build up over time.  Blending yin with restorative yoga – where the body is entirely supported for the deepest rest – allows us to ease out, realign and thoroughly restore.

Yin Yoga offers a slow-paced, meditative style of yoga with postures held for longer periods of time for 3 to 5 minutes in order to improve flexibility by releasing the connective tissues of the body including the tendons, fascia, and ligaments, even joints of the bones generally in the hips, pelvis and lower spine. At the same time there is an emphasis on relaxing the muscular tissue.

Yin can be challenging owing to holding the postures for long periods. The perfect complement to dynamic (Yang) forms of yoga.

Yin aims to unblock meridian channels to encourage energy/chi/prana to flow cultivating harmony and peace, a deeper sense of balance and feelings of calmness and a sense of well-being.as well as organ health. Yin offers a deep release and sense of letting go and brings us into balance when we are out of balance, restoring our Yin and Yang.

Restorative Poses (different to Yin poses) offer nourishment, healing and support and we use the bolsters, blocks, blankets and belts to provide the support we need to provide complete relaxation.

We mix the two styles and I offer options and choices so that you can decide how your practice will unfold and make your own choices that Yinspire and support you.

To finish, a long Yoga Nidra, one of the deepest of all mediations. An effortless relaxation. Yoga Nidra is the prefect end to this Yin Yoga deep releasing and letting go sequence relaxation, bringing incredible calmness, quietness, clarity and deep relaxation.

This workshop will lead you through a strong and rounded vinyasa style Power Yoga flow (attainable for all levels) that will cover forward folds, back bends, hip openers, balance and twists. Following this the session will move towards a more gentle and still Yin practice working across the meridians and balancing the body leading to a still and more restorative practice.

Join Kate for her new Yin and Tonic Workshop that incorporates Myofascial Release techniques with yin yoga poses to help you deeply release tension in the body.

A Yin Yoga and Myofascial Release Workshop, to Unwind, Release and Let Go of tension in the body and to encourage healing and recovery from trauma held in the fascia.

A refreshing and deeply releasing, deliciously yummy and bittersweet practice of letting go of tension we are holding in the body, combining Yin poses with myofascial release techniques placing tennis balls in places of tension, to release and nourish to provide a deeper level of release.

This 2 hour workshop cultivates harmony and balance as we breathe into our yin poses, releasing and letting go of tension, increasing flexibility as our fascia, connective tissues and bones are energised as we soften into edge. Stimulate the meridian channels, releasing blockages and encouraging energy, Chi, Prana, life force to flow through your entire being.

What is self-myofascial release?
The term myofascial refers to the muscles and fascia that surrounds them. Myo- simply means muscle. Therefore, self-myofascial release is a massage technique of applying continued pressure to an area of myofascial tissue that contains restrictions, tightness, inflexibility, adhesions or lacks proper movement.

MFR is very effective for rejuvenating and regenerating muscles and can be used to rehabilitate and restore the health of soft tissue structures increasing movement and aiding recovery.

We will also incorporate these targeting techniques to acupressure points, Back Shu points and Front Mu points, known as “transporting” points because it is said that they transport “Qi” to the inner organs. Using this method also around our ‘belts of tension. Using the tennis balls while we come into and hold our yin poses provides a totally amazing, deep release! Likened to giving yourself a deep tissue massage.

Mindful Yin Yoga is a permissive, nourishing, yielding practice. It works on the deep tissues in the body that need a gentle, longer-held pressure to be stimulated and grow stronger. The asanas in this practice are held for 3 to 7 minutes, while keeping a deep, mindful breathing. The tissue will lengthen, open-up and become stronger, restoring itself and increasing flexibility of the whole body.
