YIN & RESTORATIVE YOGA

With Sofie Swindlehurst

Friday 13th December. 6:30pm – 8pm

Cost: £9

Yin is the calm, receptive opposite to dynamic yang.  Of course we need both but our swift-paced world tends to find life a little too heavy in yang!

Yin Yoga focuses on the connective tissues of the body using longer-held, more supported asana to open up tight, dense areas that can build up over time. It’s great for those of us with slow-creep postural habits, those of us with specific sports goals and those of us who just want to take better care of our joint health.  By coupling with restorative, this practice brings generous relaxation and renewal.

Come revel in spacious stillness.

Feel free to drop in or contact Sofie: 07967 820260

With Kate Kearns & Jane Blackburn

Friday 27th December.  2:30pm – 4:30pm

Cost:  £25 Early bird price in advance and this will secure your place or £30 on the day if places are available.

We will be offering a nourishing and releasing practice with gentle yin postures mixed with some restorative poses together with healing sounds of the gong to rejuvenate, relax, refresh and restore you.

The sounds and vibrations of the Crystal Bowls can help in resolving emotional and physical dissonance. Playing and listening to the bowls is about spiritual, physical and emotional resolution – opening of doors and windows to the Universe, moving around energies, Universal energies – to enter a spiritual dimension. A psycho-acoustic gateway to heightened states of awareness and consciousness. It is an ideal tool for stress reduction, stimulation of the glandular system, and to break up emotional blockages.

Gently opening into our mindful restorative and yin yoga practice by focusing our attention inward, using our breath as our anchor. A mindful, permissive, nourishing, yielding practice, whilst working on the deeper tissues, welcoming awareness of the subtler sensations.

Cultivating harmony and peace, a deeper sense of balance and feelings of calmness and a sense of well-being. Also working to stimulate and unblock energy channels to offer a deep release and sense of letting go.

YIN YOGA & MYOFASCIAL RELEASE WORKSHOP

With Kate Kearns

Saturday 28th December.  2:30pm – 4:30pm

Cost: £20 early bird price/ £25 if paying on the day.

Join Kate for her new Yin and Tonic Workshop that incorporates Myofascial Release techniques with yin yoga poses to help you deeply release tension in the body.

A Yin Yoga and Myofascial Release Workshop, to Unwind, Release and Let Go of tension in the body and to encourage healing and recovery from trauma held in the fascia.

A refreshing and deeply releasing, deliciously yummy and bittersweet practice of letting go of tension we are holding in the body, combining Yin poses with myofascial release techniques placing tennis balls in places of tension, to release and nourish to provide a deeper level of release.

This 2 hour workshop cultivates harmony and balance as we breathe into our yin poses, releasing and letting go of tension, increasing flexibility as our fascia, connective tissues and bones are energised as we soften into edge. Stimulate the meridian channels, releasing blockages and encouraging energy, Chi, Prana, life force to flow through your entire being.

Mindful Yin Yoga is a permissive, nourishing, yielding practice. It works on the deep tissues in the body that need a gentle, longer-held pressure to be stimulated and grow stronger. The asanas in this practice are held for 3 to 7 minutes, while keeping a deep, mindful breathing. The tissue will lengthen, open-up and become stronger, restoring itself and increasing flexibility of the whole body.

Suitable for all levels including beginners

FAMILY YIN & RESTORATIVE YOGA

With Sofie Swindlehurst

Friday 3rd January. 6:30pm – 7:30pm

Cost: £9 / £6 concessions

Come share your chilled Fridays

This family class runs alongside our usual monthly Yin & Restorative (second Friday).  It remains an adult class but is geared more toward those who want to bring teens and older juniors – or indeed toward they who want to bring their elders! – for shared space and serenity.

Yin is calm and peaceful. Yang is active and dynamic.  Of course we need both but our swift-paced world tends to find life a little too heavy in yang!  So here we bring balance and practice the transition back to peace.

Yin Yoga targets the fascia (connective body tissue), opening up tight, dense areas that can build up over time.  Blending yin with restorative yoga – where the body is entirely supported for the deepest rest – allows us to ease out, realign and thoroughly restore.

Feel free to drop in or contact Sofie: 07967 820260

FLUID HIBERNATION – A WINTER SEASONAL YOGA WORKSHOP

With Sharon Waterson

Saturday 18TH January, 2pm – 4:30pm

INVESTMENT: Book online and pay before the day to receive the early bird discount of £20, or drop in and pay £25 on the day as long as there’s space.

Through our technological advances we have created a world where, particularly in developed countries, we live busier and busier lives as the daylight hours and communication barriers no longer restrict us.  Despite this, we have begun to feel completely disconnected from ourselves and the world around us. As a result the stress hormones within our bodies remain elevated and our physical and mental health begins to suffer in ways that they never did 100 years ago.

Join Sharon for an immersion into Seasonal Yoga and learn how our daily habits, priorities, dietary intake and behaviours can be altered during the Season of Winter so that we may become more attuned to the natural world around us. Learning to flow with the seasonal peaks and troughs of energy in nature to avoid future burn out. Practice the ancient practices of Hatha yoga, Tai Chi & Qigong to align your energy with that of Winter.

During the workshop you will discover, in an experiential way, how changing the focus of your meditation, pranayama and asana practice each season can bring about a greater sense of balance and harmony for the whole being.

This workshop will focus on working with the energy channels (meridians) of the Kidneys and the Bladder, the water element and creating the calmness of hibernation deep within ourselves. Take this opportunity to work with the energy of the Winter Season, a time for reflection and introspection , recharging and rejuvenating as the energy withdraws inwards. Learn how to create stillness and be comfortable with that in this, the most YIN time of year.

The workshop will close with a seasonally inspired Yoga Nidra to leave you feeling relaxed and grounded. With Seasonal treats and factsheets to take home, you will have the tools to begin living more seasonally from the moment you leave the session.

The workshop is suitable for all abilities and open to those from age 12 years upwards. Please note that any persons under 16 years of age should be accompanied by a paying adult.

ONLINE BOOKING LINK:  https://bookwhen.com/truselfyoga

CANCELLATION POLICY: 72 hours notice for a full refund or transfer to another Seasonal workshop. If less than 72 hours notice a refund is only possible if your place can be filled by another participant. Please do not hesitate to contact Sharon at sharonwaterson@truselfyoga.co.uk or 07732 042 918

BREATH OF LIFE

With Vicki Shields (SYT)

Saturday 1st February 10:30- 12:00pm and 1pm 3:00pm

Sunday 2nd February  10:30- 12:00pm and 1pm 3:00pm

Don’t underestimate the power of your breath when you learn how to switch your breathing from shallow to deep diaphragmatic breathing, it has immense benefits for body and mind. This workshop is aimed at complete beginners but also it is perfect for teachers wanting to deepen their knowledge. Pranayama reduces anxiety, depression insomnia, production of stress hormones and increases a sense of peacefulness towards yourself and others.

This workshop will give you all the tools you need to begin everyday with some simply breathwork, progressing onto simple Pranayama.

The practice of Pranayama; the ability to prolong and control the physical act of breathing, it is deeply therapeutic, and can be considered a tool to help you bring about physical health, increased awareness, calmness and clarity over one’s mind. It is the 4th limb of Patanjali’s Ashtanga Yoga and therefore stands at the very heart of Yoga, and yet it is little understood and rarely taught in any depth in regular weekly classes. Asana alone is rarely enough to achieve the state of “Yoga”.

The practice of asana, pranayama and meditation should be integrated , they should inform and complement one another.

SATURDAY 1st FEBRUARY

10:30-12:30 Understanding the importance of deep breathing and the preparatory exercises that address tension built up in the diaphragm, abdomen and jaw, helping to liberate the breath and the life force energy. Introduction of simple pranayama practice £25

1pm – 3pm Science & Philosophy and Mantra Recitation £25

Booked together £40

SUNDAY 2nd FEBRUARY

10:30-12:30 Building on the understanding of day one with further pranayama techniques £25

1pm-3pm  Integrating into Asana practice & meditative techniques £25

Booked together £40

Space limited to 12 students booking of both days will take priority at a cost of £75

Those looking to gain 10 CPD will be required to also fulfil 2 hours of home study which includes reading and additional evening practice.
