FACE YOGA COURSE

With Adele Offland

Wednesday 12th June to Wednesday 3rd July 1pm – 1:45pm

Cost:  £40 advance payment for the 4-week course

Adele is offering an exciting new 4-week course to learn how to nourish and pamper our faces, necks and shoulders – the parts of us that are all too often ravaged by stress, tension and the good ol’ aging process.

We work so hard stretching, strengthening & just generally moving our bodies to maintain healthy & supple muscles & joints. However, we often turn to “quick fixes” to try & combat the signs of stress & aging on our faces.  Let’s give our faces & necks the TLC they deserve & treat them to a little exercise & massage of their own …

In Adele’s 4-week Face Yoga Course, you will learn:

• Face Exercises to help tone & firm the 57 muscles in the face & neck, helping to reduce lines & wrinkles
• Face Massage to increase the circulation, lymph flow & remove toxins so you look healthier & more youthful
• Face Accupressure points to increase the flow of the subtle energy or prana in the face to help to reduce tension, increase circulation & give a healthy glow to the skin.
• Yoga Stretches & Relaxation Techniques that can help to release long-held tension in the face, neck & shoulders.

There are no contraindications whatsoever and is suitable for any age, gender and body type (including pregnant ladies).

Interested in taking your face into your own hands??

The next course will be in September 2019.

YIN & RESTORATIVE YOGA

With Sofie Swindlehurst

Friday 14th June. 6:30pm – 8pm

Cost: £9

Yin is the calm, receptive opposite to dynamic yang.  Of course we need both but our swift-paced world tends to find life a little too heavy in yang!

Yin Yoga focuses on the connective tissues of the body using longer-held, more supported asana to open up tight, dense areas that can build up over time. It’s great for those of us with slow-creep postural habits, those of us with specific sports goals and those of us who just want to take better care of our joint health.  By coupling with restorative, this practice brings generous relaxation and renewal.

Come revel in spacious stillness.

PREPARING FOR SUMMER WORKSHOP: Combining the principles of Qigong with Yin Yoga

With Carolyn Harrison

Saturday 15th June . 4pm – 6pm

It is important to follow the changing energies of nature, and as we approach the summer solstice so must we prepare and adapt. As we enter the summer season, it brings blossoming and maturing and the flowering of all the seeds planted in the spring.

Summer belongs to the Fire element and the Heart Meridian, which is associated with warmth, laughter and enthusiasm.

This wonderful 2 hour Yin Workshop is an opportunity to release, nourish, smile, embrace the warmth of summer and energise yourself  for the season ahead.

Yin is a more restorative, healing yoga that targets the connective tissues, such as the fascia, ligaments, bones, and even the joints of the body that are not normally exercised very much, which is even more important as our lives have become more sedentary.

Advanced bookings only please.

HANDSTAND WORKSHOP

With Adrian Conway

Sunday 16th June. 2pm – 5pm

Cost: £30

The main focus of this workshop (as well as having fun) is to work towards safely and efficiently kicking up in to a freestanding handstand away from the wall. The style of handstand we will be focusing on is the acrobatic/circus style which is generally regarded as the purest form, differing subtly from the yoga and even gymnastics style as it opens up more opportunities for higher skills.

There will be a full joint warm up and dynamic movement and stretch focusing on the key areas required for handstands – shoulder, legs, hips, back, wrists – everywhere I suppose. Then we will start with some basic movement patterns before looking at progressions towards the handstand such as headstands and crows.

I do like to try to get people in the class to work together especially when it comes to supporting one another (spotting) – so you will likely get to know your partner or group fairly well by the end of the 3 hours.

For those more comfortable with being on their hands, there will also be opportunities to work on more advanced variations including tucks, straddles, pike entries and if anyone wants to start working towards one arm handstands we can certainly have a look at that!

We will also do some specific strength and conditioning work, some partner stretching and ending with a relaxation and massage.

The workshop is suitable for beginners though it is recommended that you have some sort of regular physical practice- yoga, gym, dance etc.

My own handstand journey started just as Adele was opening her studio – nearly 6 years ago and I had the opportunity to learn from high level professional circus handbalancers. In 2018 I had the opportunity to be assistant to my teacher and assisted him in various workshops around Europe. I would often get asked for tips and advice when I was training, so last year started to do handstand classes and workshops throughout Manchester. I’ve also attended workshops by Yuval Ayalon, Natalie Reckert, Mark Freeman and other performers. It’s become a bit of an obsession of mine but I love it and I also love seeing the joy on people faces when they start to feel the balance in a handstand.

Handstands are challenging but incredibly good fun with a huge range of benefits- increased shoulder mobility, great for blood flow, strength, flexibility.

If you would like to book please send a payment of £30 by paypal to aidyconway@gmail.com. Places will be on first come first served basis and limited to 15.

YOGA & SOUND MEDITATION

With Amanda Riley & John Hofton

Sunday June 23rd 2019 10am to 1pm

Cost: £45 per person  (To be paid in full, no refunds available. Full payment to secure booking.)

Working to balance the Solar Plexus Chakra, Manipura Chakra.

The centre for our vitality, self worth, self confidence, knowledge, wisdom and the ability to make correct decisions. The seat of the digestive fire, it regulates the function of the Pancreas and digestive organs. Blockages at this centre may cause health concerns related to digestive disorders, circulatory disease, and diabetes. By balancing this chakra and helping this energy to flow freely we feel in balance and have strength and self belief.

We will work through asanas that involve twists, forward folds and backbends and abdominal exercises to connect to the chakra and associated bhanda.

Master Sound Practitioner, John Hofton will lead us through a deeply relaxing sound healing session with an emphasis on healing and connecting with the Solar Plexus Chakra.

Sound healing is increasingly being recognised as an aid to deep relaxation, increased energy flow and as a way to still the mind. John will include a simple breathing technique which will promote an atmosphere of inner peace and physiological balance ensuring that you are receptive to the healing energy of the pallet of sounds he will create from his wide selection of instruments e.g. Tibetan singing bowls, Japanese xylophone, Traditional Amercian Indian flute, Traditional Brazilian Shaker, Gemshorn, Dream Chau Gong and Scared Solfeggio Tuning forks.

The meditative focus on the breath will also enable you to feel grounded, centered and secure throughout the session so that the resonances of the healing sounds will produce the most beneficial effects on you. John will also encourage you to use your heart-centered intent to access your own inner vibration leaving you feeling more connected to the core of yourself.

Includes refreshments.

CIRCULATE & NOURISH – A SUMMER SEASONAL YOGA WORKSHOP

With Sharon Waterson

Saturday 29th June 2pm -4:30pm

Through our technological advances we have created a world where, particularly in developed countries, we have the ability to shop 24 hours a day, where we’re contactable every minute of the day and where we have begun to feel completely disconnected from ourselves and the world around us. This leaves us in a constant state of “fight or flight”, a state which increases the stress hormones within our bodies that can wreak havoc on our bodies and minds.

Join Sharon for an immersion into Seasonal Yoga and learn how our daily habits, priorities, dietary intake and behaviours can be altered during this Season of Summer so that we may become more attuned to the natural world around us.

Seasonal Yoga is a fusion of a flowing Hatha based yoga, Tai Chi and Qigong. Utilising the ancient wisdom behind these practices, Seasonal Yoga creates a practice suitable for all that will align our energy with that of the current season, allowing us to have the natural peaks and troughs in energy which we would have had when living more seasonally hundreds of years ago, incidentally when there was a much less incidence of man-made diseases like diabetes, heart disease, cancer and more.

During the workshop you will discover, in an experiential way, how changing the focus of your meditation, pranayama and asana practice each season can bring about a greater sense of balance and harmony for the whole being.

This workshop will focus on working with the energy channels (meridians) of the Heart and the Small Intestine, our organs of circulation and nourishment, as our practices move us towards the full heat of this fire season where everything is in full bloom.

The workshop will close with a seasonally inspired Yoga Nidra to leave you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. With Seasonal treats and factsheets to take home, you will have the tools to begin living more seasonally from the moment you leave the session.

The workshop is suitable for all abilities and open to those from age 12 years upwards. Please note that any persons under 16 years of age should be accompanied by a paying adult.

INVESTMENT: Book online and pay before the day to receive the early bird discount of £20, or drop in and pay £25 on the day as long as there’s space.

CANCELLATION POLICY: 72 hours notice for a full refund or transfer to another Seasonal workshop. If less than 72 hours notice a refund is only possible if your place can be filled by another participant.

FAMILY YIN & RESTORATIVE YOGA

With Sofie Swindlehurst

Friday 5th July. 6:30pm – 7:30pm

Cost: £9 / £6 concessions

Come share your chilled Fridays

This family class runs alongside our usual monthly Yin & Restorative (second Friday).  It remains an adult class but is geared more toward those who want to bring teens and older juniors – or indeed toward they who want to bring their elders! – for shared space and serenity.

Yin is calm and peaceful. Yang is active and dynamic.  Of course we need both but our swift-paced world tends to find life a little too heavy in yang!  So here we bring balance and practice the transition back to peace.

Yin Yoga targets the fascia (connective body tissue), opening up tight, dense areas that can build up over time.  Blending yin with restorative yoga – where the body is entirely supported for the deepest rest – allows us to ease out, realign and thoroughly restore.

BREATH OF LIFE

With Vicki Shields (SYT)

Saturday 10th August  10:30- 12:00pm and 1pm 3:00pm

Sunday 11th August  10:30- 12:00pm and 1pm 3:00pm

Don’t underestimate the power of your breath when you learn how to switch your breathing from shallow to deep diaphragmatic breathing, it has immense benefits for body and mind. This workshop is aimed at complete beginners but also it is perfect for teachers wanting to deepen their knowledge. Pranayama reduces anxiety, depression insomnia, production of stress hormones and increases a sense of peacefulness towards yourself and others.

This workshop will give you all the tools you need to begin everyday with some simply breathwork, progressing onto simple Pranayama.

The practice of Pranayama; the ability to prolong and control the physical act of breathing, it is deeply therapeutic, and can be considered a tool to help you bring about physical health, increased awareness, calmness and clarity over one’s mind. It is the 4th limb of Patanjali’s Ashtanga Yoga and therefore stands at the very heart of Yoga, and yet it is little understood and rarely taught in any depth in regular weekly classes. Asana alone is rarely enough to achieve the state of “Yoga”.

Those who joined in july will get an opportunity to deepen & further their practice. It offers 10 CPD hours, (eventually building up to 30 CPD). Cultivating enough understanding to eventually pass on into a class situation.

The practice of asana, pranayama and meditation should be integrated , they should inform and complement one another.

PART ONE ( 10 CPD HOURS)

SATURDAY 10TH  AUGUST

10:30-12:30 Understanding the importance of deep breathing and the preparatory exercises that address tension built up in the diaphragm, abdomen and jaw, helping to liberate the breath and the life force energy. Introduction of simple pranayama practice £25

1:00PM-3PM Science & Philosophy and Mantra Recitation £25

Booked together £40

SUNDAY 11TH AUGUST

10:30-12:30 Building on the understanding of day one with further pranayama techniques £25

1:00pm-3pm Integrating into Asana practice & meditative techniques £25

Booked together £40

Space limited to 12 students booking of both days will take priority at a cost of £75

Those looking to gain 10 CPD will be required to also fulfil 2 hours of home study which includes reading and additional evening practice.
