RESTORATIVE & GENTLE YIN YOGA WITH GONG SOUND BATH WORKSHOP

With Kate Kearns & Jane Blackburn

Saturday 27th April. 10:30am – 12:30pm

Please join Kate Kearns, Senior Yoga Teacher, qualified yin and MBSR Restorative Yoga Therapy and Jane Blackburn, The Gong Lady to experience the benefits of this Restorative and Gentle Yin Yoga with Gong Sound Bath Workshop.

The first 1.5 hours will be dedicated to a restorative and gentle yin practice with sound and vibrations healing and relaxing you the practice and the last half an hour will be completely dedicated to a Gong Sound Bath meditation.

We will be offering a nourishing and releasing practice with gentle yin postures and shapes where experimental exploration is encouraged, amalgamated with restorative poses and the healing sounds of the gong to rejuvenate, relax, refresh and restore you.

Gongs can help in resolving emotional and physical dissonance. Magic happens when there is no separation between the gong, the player and the listener. Playing and listening to gongs is about spiritual, physical and emotional resolution – opening of doors and windows to the Universe, moving around energies, Universal energies – to enter a spiritual dimension. The Gong is a psycho-acoustic gateway to heightened states of awareness and consciousness. It is an ideal tool for stress reduction, stimulation of the glandular system, and to break up emotional blockages.

Gently opening into our mindful restorative and yin yoga practice by focusing our attention inward, using our breath as our anchor. A mindful, permissive, nourishing, yielding practice, whilst working on the deeper tissues, welcoming awareness of the subtler sensations.

Cultivating harmony and peace, a deeper sense of balance and feelings of calmness and a sense of well-being. Also working to stimulate and unblock energy channels to offer a deep release and sense of letting go. This restorative and gentle yin yoga gong bath workshop will offer a slow-paced, meditative style of yoga with postures held for 3 to 5 minutes.

The Gongs stimulate and resonate all cells in the human body simultaneously and recalibrate the parasympathetic nervous system (heavy arms and legs as well as a regulated heart rate during a gong meditation are a sign of the re-calibration). The Gong generates powerful multi-dimensional ripples of sound that grow into waves and bathe your entire body in streams of sound. These have been described as otherworldly, rhythmic, generating a sense of being on vacation, unfathomable, purifying, magical, sweet – like rich, rich chocolate cake, profound, out of body, celestial and harmonic…just to name a few.

Join us for this exquisite combination of gentle Yin and Gong sound nourishing and relaxation therapy.

Please are limited. Early Bird Investment is £25 early bird if booked and paid in advance. £30 on the day. Please message me or email info@yoga-aura.co.uk or text 07795 418266 for a place or Pay via PayPal. https://www.paypal.me/YogaAuraWorkshops

YIN & RESTORATIVE YOGA

With Sofie Swindlehurst

Friday 10th May. 6:30pm – 8pm

Cost: £9

Yin is the calm, receptive opposite to dynamic yang.  Of course we need both but our swift-paced world tends to find life a little too heavy in yang!

Yin Yoga focuses on the connective tissues of the body using longer-held, more supported asana to open up tight, dense areas that can build up over time. It’s great for those of us with slow-creep postural habits, those of us with specific sports goals and those of us who just want to take better care of our joint health.  By coupling with restorative, this practice brings generous relaxation and renewal.

Come revel in spacious stillness.

Feel free to drop in or contact Sofie: 07967 820260

 BREATH OF LIFE

With Vicki Shields (SYT)

Saturday 11th May  10:30- 12:00pm and 1pm 3:00pm

Sunday 12th May  10:30- 12:00pm and 1pm 3:00pm

Don’t underestimate the power of your breath when you learn how to switch your breathing from shallow to deep diaphragmatic breathing, it has immense benefits for body and mind. This workshop is aimed at complete beginners but also it is perfect for teachers wanting to deepen their knowledge. Pranayama reduces anxiety, depression insomnia, production of stress hormones and increases a sense of peacefulness towards yourself and others.

This workshop will give you all the tools you need to begin everyday with some simply breathwork, progressing onto simple Pranayama.

The practice of Pranayama; the ability to prolong and control the physical act of breathing, it is deeply therapeutic, and can be considered a tool to help you bring about physical health, increased awareness, calmness and clarity over one’s mind. It is the 4th limb of Patanjali’s Ashtanga Yoga and therefore stands at the very heart of Yoga, and yet it is little understood and rarely taught in any depth in regular weekly classes. Asana alone is rarely enough to achieve the state of “Yoga”.

Those who joined in july will get an opportunity to deepen & further their practice. It offers 10 CPD hours, (eventually building up to 30 CPD). Cultivating enough understanding to eventually pass on into a class situation.

The practice of asana, pranayama and meditation should be integrated , they should inform and complement one another.

PART ONE ( 10 CPD HOURS)

SATURDAY 11TH  MAY

10:30-12:30 Understanding the importance of deep breathing and the preparatory exercises that address tension built up in the diaphragm, abdomen and jaw, helping to liberate the breath and the life force energy. Introduction of simple pranayama practice £25

1:00PM-3PM Science & Philosophy and Mantra Recitation £25

Booked together £40

SUNDAY 12TH MAY

10:30-12:30 Building on the understanding of day one with further pranayama techniques £25

1:00pm-3pm Integrating into Asana practice & meditative techniques £25

Booked together £40

Space limited to 12 students booking of both days will take priority at a cost of £75

Those looking to gain 10 CPD will be required to also fulfil 2 hours of home study which includes reading and additional evening practice.

INNER & OUTER CONNECTEDNESS – A SEASONAL YOGA WORKSHOP

With Sharon Waterson

Friday 17th May 7pm – 9:30pm

In Seasonal Yoga we work with the changing energies within 6 seasons. The ‘extra’ seasons, which are not traditionally learnt in the western world, recognise that transitional seasons exist leading to and from Summer paying homage to the notable shift in energy between the cooler Spring and Autumn Seasons and the full yang of Summer.

Join Sharon for an immersion into Seasonal Yoga and learn how our daily habits, priorities, dietary intake and behaviours can be altered during this Season of Early Summer so that we may become more attuned to the natural world around us.

During the workshop you will discover, in an experiential way, how changing the focus of your meditation, pranayama and asana practice each season can bring about a greater sense of balance and harmony for the whole being.

Seasonal Yoga is a fusion of a flowing Hatha based yoga, Tai Chi and Qigong. This workshop will focus on working with the energy channels (meridians) of the Triple Heater and the Pericardium, our organs of connection and protection, as our practices move us towards the ripening and harvesting of those seeds which we planted in Spring. In Early Summer we become more focussed on the connection of our inner world with the one that surrounds us..

The workshop will close with a seasonally inspired Yoga Nidra to leave you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated and aligned with the energy of the season.

With Seasonal treats, recipes and factsheets to take home you will have the tools to begin living more seasonally from the moment you leave the session.

The workshop is suitable for all abilities and open to those from age 12 years upwards. Please note that any persons under 16 years of age should be accompanied by a paying adult.

YIN & TONIC: YIN YOGA WORKSHOP WITH TIBETAN SINGING BOWLS RELAXATION

With Kate Kearns

Saturday 1st June. 2:30pm – 4:30pm

Join me on Saturday afternoon for Yin and Tonic!! A Yin Yoga and Relaxation Workshop, to Unwind, Release and Let Go!!! A refreshing and releasing deliciously yummy, letting go to create space, mindful Yin Yoga practice ending with the perfect tonic, a long refreshing, soothing Shavasana with Tibetan Singing Bowl Sound Healing.

“Yin Yoga” Commit to the stillness, observe and allow whatever arises to simply be. Mindful Yin Yoga is a permissive, nourishing, yielding practice. It works on the deep tissues that normally need a gentle, longer-held pressure to be stimulated and grow stronger. The asanas in this practice are held for 3 to 7 minutes, while keeping a deep, mindful breathing. The tissue will lengthen, open-up and become stronger, restoring itself and increasing flexibility of the whole body.

• The perfect complement to dynamic (Yang) forms of yoga.

• Yin aims to unblock energy channels known as the meridians and offers a deep release and sense of letting go. Cultivating harmony and peace, a deeper sense of balance and feelings of calmness.

• Yin is a quiet and simple yoga practice but that does not mean that it is easy. Yin can be challenging owing to holding the postures for long periods. We can use props like blocks, bolsters, blankets and cushions help us to remain at our appropriate edge and support us in the pose.

• Mindful yin Yoga is a path, a journey that we embark on in our practice where our intention is not to get somewhere else in our practice, but to be just where we are. To be in the moment, with our breath, just being aware of our intention of staying mindful.

• Mindful Yin Yoga is non-judging and is about being fully present and with kindness to ourselves and self-compassion in our hearts.

• Mindful yin yoga taps in to our innate potential for healing and it cultivates our ability to embody wisdom and self-compassion and can help us to free whatever arises in our lives with integrity, with clarity and with an open-hearted presence. Suitable for all levels including beginners.

FAMILY YIN & RESTORATIVE YOGA

With Sofie Swindlehurst

Friday 7th June. 6:30pm – 7:30pm

Cost: £9 / £6 concessions

Come share your chilled Fridays

This family class runs alongside our usual monthly Yin & Restorative (second Friday).  It remains an adult class but is geared more toward those who want to bring teens and older juniors – or indeed toward they who want to bring their elders! – for shared space and serenity.

Yin is calm and peaceful. Yang is active and dynamic.  Of course we need both but our swift-paced world tends to find life a little too heavy in yang!  So here we bring balance and practice the transition back to peace.

Yin Yoga targets the fascia (connective body tissue), opening up tight, dense areas that can build up over time.  Blending yin with restorative yoga – where the body is entirely supported for the deepest rest – allows us to ease out, realign and thoroughly restore.

HANDSTAND WORKSHOP

With Adrian Conway

Saturday 16th June. 2pm – 5pm

Cost: £30

The main focus of this workshop (as well as having fun) is to work towards safely and efficiently kicking up in to a freestanding handstand away from the wall. The style of handstand we will be focusing on is the acrobatic/circus style which is generally regarded as the purest form, differing subtly from the yoga and even gymnastics style as it opens up more opportunities for higher skills.

There will be a full joint warm up and dynamic movement and stretch focusing on the key areas required for handstands – shoulder, legs, hips, back, wrists – everywhere I suppose. Then we will start with some basic movement patterns before looking at progressions towards the handstand such as headstands and crows.

I do like to try to get people in the class to work together especially when it comes to supporting one another (spotting) – so you will likely get to know your partner or group fairly well by the end of the 3 hours.

For those more comfortable with being on their hands, there will also be opportunities to work on more advanced variations including tucks, straddles, pike entries and if anyone wants to start working towards one arm handstands we can certainly have a look at that!

We will also do some specific strength and conditioning work, some partner stretching and ending with a relaxation and massage.

The workshop is suitable for beginners though it is recommended that you have some sort of regular physical practice- yoga, gym, dance etc.

My own handstand journey started just as Adele was opening her studio – nearly 6 years ago and I had the opportunity to learn from high level professional circus handbalancers. In 2018 I had the opportunity to be assistant to my teacher and assisted him in various workshops around Europe. I would often get asked for tips and advice when I was training, so last year started to do handstand classes and workshops throughout Manchester. I’ve also attended workshops by Yuval Ayalon, Natalie Reckert, Mark Freeman and other performers. It’s become a bit of an obsession of mine but I love it and I also love seeing the joy on people faces when they start to feel the balance in a handstand.

Handstands are challenging but incredibly good fun with a huge range of benefits- increased shoulder mobility, great for blood flow, strength, flexibility.

If you would like to book please send a payment of £30 by paypal to aidyconway@gmail.com. Places will be on first come first served basis and limited to 15.
