FAMILY YIN & RESTORATIVE YOGA

With Sofie Swindlehurst

Friday 1st February. 6:30pm – 7:30pm

Cost: £9 / £6 concessions

Come share your chilled Fridays

This family class runs alongside our usual monthly Yin & Restorative (second Friday).  It remains an adult class but is geared more toward those who want to bring teens and older juniors – or indeed toward they who want to bring their elders! – for shared space and serenity.

Yin is calm and peaceful. Yang is active and dynamic.  Of course we need both but our swift-paced world tends to find life a little too heavy in yang!  So here we bring balance and practice the transition back to peace.

Yin Yoga targets the fascia (connective body tissue), opening up tight, dense areas that can build up over time.  Blending yin with restorative yoga – where the body is entirely supported for the deepest rest – allows us to ease out, realign and thoroughly restore.

Feel free to drop in or contact Sofie: 07967 820260

MINDFUL YIN, RESTORATIVE & YOGA NIDRA MEDITATION WORKSHOP

With Kate Kearns

Saturday 2nd February  2:30pm – 5pm

Cost:  £20 Early bird price in advance of  the workshop and this will secure your place or £25 on the day if places are available

Please join Kate for a delicious deep releasing Mindful Yinspiring Yin, Restorative and Yoga Nidra Workshop – Mindfully Release, Relax and Let Go.

Yin Yoga offers a slow-paced, meditative style of yoga with postures held for longer periods of time for 3 to 5 minutes in order to improve flexibility by releasing the connective tissues of the body including the tendons, fascia, and ligaments, even joints of the bones generally in the hips, pelvis and lower spine. At the same time there is an emphasis on relaxing the muscular tissue.

Yin can be challenging owing to holding the postures for long periods. The perfect complement to dynamic (Yang) forms of yoga.

Yin aims to unblock energy channels and offers a deep release and sense of letting go. Cultivating harmony and peace, a deeper sense of balance and feelings of calmness and a sense of well-being.

Restorative Poses (different to Yin poses offer nourishment, healing and support and we use the bolsters, blocks, blankets and belts to provide the support we need to provide complete relaxation.

We mix the two styles and I offer options and choices so that you can decide how you practice will unfold.

To finish, a long yoga Nidra, one of the deepest of all meditations. An effortless relaxation. Yoga Nidra is the prefect end to this Yin Yoga deep releasing and letting go sequence relaxation, bringing incredible calmness, quietness, clarity and deep relaxation.

“Relaxation does not mean sleep. Relaxation means to be blissfully happy; it has no end. I call bliss absolute relaxation; sleep is a different matter. Sleep gives only mind and sense relaxation. Bliss relaxes the ātma, the inner self; that is why, in tantra, Yoga Nidra is the doorway to Samādhi.”

– Swami Satyananda Saraswati, Yoga Nidra, pub. Bihar School of Yoga, 1976.

Suitable for all levels including beginners.

YIN & RESTORATIVE YOGA

With Sofie Swindlehurst

Friday 8th February. 6:30pm – 8pm

Cost: £9

Yin is the calm, receptive opposite to dynamic yang.  Of course we need both but our swift-paced world tends to find life a little too heavy in yang!

Yin Yoga focuses on the connective tissues of the body using longer-held, more supported asana to open up tight, dense areas that can build up over time. It’s great for those of us with slow-creep postural habits, those of us with specific sports goals and those of us who just want to take better care of our joint health.  By coupling with restorative, this practice brings generous relaxation and renewal.

Come revel in spacious stillness.

BREATH OF LIFE

With Vicki Shields (SYT)

Saturday 9th February  10:30- 12:00pm and 1pm 3:00pm

Sunday 10th February  10:30- 12:00pm and 1pm 3:00pm

Don’t underestimate the power of your breath when you learn how to switch your breathing from shallow to deep diaphragmatic breathing, it has immense benefits for body and mind. This workshop is aimed at complete beginners but also it is perfect for teachers wanting to deepen their knowledge. Pranayama reduces anxiety, depression insomnia, production of stress hormones and increases a sense of peacefulness towards yourself and others.

This workshop will give you all the tools you need to begin everyday with some simply breathwork, progressing onto simple Pranayama.

The practice of Pranayama; the ability to prolong and control the physical act of breathing, it is deeply therapeutic, and can be considered a tool to help you bring about physical health, increased awareness, calmness and clarity over one’s mind. It is the 4th limb of Patanjali’s Ashtanga Yoga and therefore stands at the very heart of Yoga, and yet it is little understood and rarely taught in any depth in regular weekly classes. Asana alone is rarely enough to achieve the state of “Yoga”.

Those who joined in july will get an opportunity to deepen & further their practice. It offers 10 CPD hours, (eventually building up to 30 CPD). Cultivating enough understanding to eventually pass on into a class situation.

The practice of asana, pranayama and meditation should be integrated , they should inform and complement one another.

PART ONE ( 10 CPD HOURS)

SATURDAY 9TH  FEBRUARY

10:30-12:30 Understanding the importance of deep breathing and the preparatory exercises that address tension built up in the diaphragm, abdomen and jaw, helping to liberate the breath and the life force energy. Introduction of simple pranayama practice £25

1:00PM-3PM Science & Philosophy and Mantra Recitation £25

Booked together £40

SUNDAY 10TH FEBRUARY

10:30-12:30 Building on the understanding of day one with further pranayama techniques £25

1:00pm-3pm Integrating into Asana practice & meditative techniques £25

Booked together £40

Space limited to 12 students booking of both days will take priority at a cost of £75

Those looking to gain 10 CPD will be required to also fulfil 2 hours of home study which includes reading and additional evening practice.

OPEN HEART MASTERCLASS

With The Yoga Family

Sunday 17th February 2019 1.30-4pm

In our Open Heart Yoga Master Class we will be learning how to explore backbends safely, with correct alignment and with ease. Each Master Class is designed to push you out of your comfort zone while giving you a greater understanding of yoga philosophy, enabling you to deepen your practice. Backbends are a powerful element of the yoga practice as they help us to release tension from the front of our bodies. Regular backbends ensure we have the vital flexibility and movement of the spine. Together we will explore how these postures stimulate the heart chakra. We will use these postures to connect deeper with ourselves and to release blocked emotions. Open your heart and embrace the love within.

YIN & TONIC: YIN YOGA WORKSHOP WITH TIBETAN SINGING BOWLS RELAXATION

With Kate Kearns

Saturday 2nd March. 2:30 – 4:30pm

Join me on Saturday afternoon for Yin and Tonic!! A Yin Yoga and Relaxation Workshop, to Unwind, Release and Let Go!!! A refreshing and releasing deliciously yummy, letting go to create space, mindful Yin Yoga practice ending with the perfect tonic, a long refreshing, soothing Shavasana with Tibetan Singing Bowl Sound Healing.

“Yin Yoga” Commit to the stillness, observe and allow whatever arises to simply be. Mindful Yin Yoga is a permissive, nourishing, yielding practice. It works on the deep tissues that normally need a gentle, longer-held pressure to be stimulated and grow stronger. The asanas in this practice are held for 3 to 7 minutes, while keeping a deep, mindful breathing. The tissue will lengthen, open-up and become stronger, restoring itself and increasing flexibility of the whole body.

• The perfect complement to dynamic (Yang) forms of yoga.

• Yin aims to unblock energy channels known as the meridians and offers a deep release and sense of letting go. Cultivating harmony and peace, a deeper sense of balance and feelings of calmness.

• Yin is a quiet and simple yoga practice but that does not mean that it is easy. Yin can be challenging owing to holding the postures for long periods. We can use props like blocks, bolsters, blankets and cushions help us to remain at our appropriate edge and support us in the pose.

• Mindful yin Yoga is a path, a journey that we embark on in our practice where our intention is not to get somewhere else in our practice, but to be just where we are. To be in the moment, with our breath, just being aware of our intention of staying mindful.

• Mindful Yin Yoga is non-judging and is about being fully present and with kindness to ourselves and self-compassion in our hearts.

• Mindful yin yoga taps in to our innate potential for healing and it cultivates our ability to embody wisdom and self-compassion and can help us to free whatever arises in our lives with integrity, with clarity and with an open-hearted presence. Suitable for all levels including beginners.

HIP HIP HURRAY YOGA WORKSHOP

With The Yoga Family

Sunday 24th March 1:30pm – 4pm

This event is perfect for those who spend lots of time driving or sitting at a desk, along with those who have an active lifestyle. Runners, cyclists, gym goers, hikers, rock climbers, we all need to look after our hips! When our hips are too tight it limits our range of movement and increases the load on our lower backs, often resulting in injuries. Equally when our hips are too flexible, injuries are caused from instability.

Together we will explore how we can release the physical tension around the hips to increase movement, create stability as needed, reduce lower back pain and prevent injury. We will explore how these postures can help us to release blocked energy and emotions and cause an energetic shift that can help us tune into our own creativity and self-expression.
